High Court Remands Besigye, Lutale Until October 2025 for Treason Case Ruling
KAMPALA – The High Court in Kampala has remanded veteran opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye and his co-accused, Hajji Obeid Lutale, until October 8, 2025, when a ruling is expected on preliminary concerns raised by the former presidential candidate.
Dr. Besigye, alongside his political aide Lutale and UPDF soldier Denis Oola, was brought before Justice Emmanuel Baguma to take a plea on charges of treason and misprision of treason.
The court session, however, was dominated by procedural matters after Dr. Besigye sought to personally present his concerns regarding the case. Justice Baguma had initially guided that any issues from the accused be channeled through their legal representatives.
Despite the judge’s direction, Dr. Besigye insisted on addressing the court himself. Following this, Justice Baguma ordered the opposition leader to formally submit his concerns in writing by October 3 of this year.
The case has been adjourned for two years, with the next key date being October 8, 2025, when the court will deliver its ruling on the matters raised by Dr. Besigye. The accused will remain in custody until that time.
