Kampala Businessman Arrested Over Shs200 Million Government Drug Theft
Kampala, Uganda – July 31, 2025 — Kampala-based businessman Robert Waiswa has been arrested by the State House Health Monitoring Unit over his alleged involvement in the theft of government drugs valued at Shs200 million.
Waiswa was arraigned before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi on Thursday, where he was formally charged in connection with the case. He is accused of illegally possessing and dealing in essential medical supplies intended for public health facilities.
Following the court proceedings, Magistrate Kayizzi ordered that Waiswa be remanded to Luzira Prison as investigations continue.
The arrest is part of a broader crackdown by the State House Health Monitoring Unit on the misappropriation and illegal sale of government medical supplies, which has significantly affected health service delivery across the country.
Authorities have pledged to intensify efforts to dismantle the networks involved in the diversion of critical drugs and to hold all perpetrators accountable. Waiswa is expected to return to court on a later date to answer the charges.
