Kampala Metropolitan Police Nab 136 Suspects in Week-Long Crackdown on Crime

KAMPALA – In a sweeping series of operations targeting criminal black spots, the Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested a total of 136 suspects over the past week. The coordinated crackdown, aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts and restoring public order, spanned multiple divisions and led to the recovery of suspected narcotic substances and dangerous weapons.

The operations, which focused on areas notorious for harboring wrongdoers, saw significant arrests across Mukono, Kira, Nansana, Jinja Road, and Old Kampala Police Divisions.

Division-by-Division Breakdown of Arrests
The most substantial haul of suspects came from the Mukono Police Division, where a total of 61 individuals were apprehended in a series of coordinated raids. The operations were conducted in Goma, Nama, Central, and Nakisunga areas, with specific arrests made at locations including Goma–Jogo Centre (9 suspects), Walusubi Centre (12 suspects), and several others. Police confirmed that several exhibits of suspected narcotic substances were recovered, and all 61 suspects have been arraigned in court.

In the Old Kampala Division, two separate operations in the bustling areas of Nakulabye and Kisenyi led to the arrest of 48 suspects—24 from each location. Police recovered several exhibits, including suspected narcotics and dangerous weapons. These suspects have also been charged in court.
Elsewhere, the Jinja Road Police Division conducted operations in the Thailand, Katogo, and Kago areas of Kinawataka, resulting in the arrest of 16 suspects. They were charged with unlawful possession of suspected narcotic substances and public nuisance.
Similarly, in the Nansana Division, an operation under the Wamala Police Post led to the arrest of eight suspects from various sub-zones. They were found with suspected narcotics and have been arraigned in court. In the Kira Division, three suspects were arrested from a home in Kiyinda Zone where narcotics were being sold and consumed; 11 bundles of the rolled substances were recovered.
Community Engagement Strengthens Security Efforts
Parallel to the enforcement actions, the Police have intensified community engagement to foster collaboration. On October 30, 2025, the Nansana Police Division hosted a major meeting chaired by the Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, CP Ecega Richard. The meeting, attended by local leaders and security stakeholders, focused on improving vigilance, addressing family conflicts, and identifying dark spots.
A similar community policing drive was held on October 29 in Bulabira–Kalitunsi, Najjera, sensitizing residents on neighbourhood watch initiatives, domestic violence prevention, and the importance of timely information sharing with security agencies.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police leadership has commended the cooperation of the public, local leaders, and sister security agencies for the success of the operations. They reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security through proactive enforcement and strong community partnerships.
