Authorities have arrested a suspect identified as Kato in connection with a counterfeit agricultural products racket after liquid soap was allegedly repackaged and sold as weed control chemicals.
The operation, conducted at St. Jude Farm Supply, led to the seizure of counterfeit products valued at UGX 50 million. According to investigators, unsuspecting farmers had been purchasing the fake chemicals believing they were genuine agricultural inputs.
The Anti-Counterfeit Network (ACN) has since issued a strong warning to farmers and the general public, urging them to buy only from trusted and certified suppliers. Officials emphasized that counterfeit agro-chemicals not only lead to heavy financial losses but also threaten food security and livelihoods.
“This is a wake-up call to farmers to remain vigilant. Always verify before you buy, because counterfeit products are flooding the market,” ACN cautioned.
The suspect remains in custody as further investigations continue.
