
KAMPALA – In a significant accolade for Uganda’s legal community, Mr. Robert Kirunda, a distinguished lecturer at Makerere University’s School of Law (@MakerereLaw), has been appointed as a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague, Netherlands.
The appointment was announced through celebratory messages from peers and colleagues, who hailed the achievement as well-deserved. This prestigious appointment marks Mr. Kirunda as only the second Ugandan in history to hold a position on the esteemed international court. The news was shared with great pride, with one congratulatory message highlighting the global contribution of talent “from the East, biblically speaking.”
The Permanent Court of Arbitration, established in 1899, is a leading intergovernmental organization dedicated to facilitating peaceful dispute resolution between states. As a member of the Court, Mr. Kirunda will join a panel of leading arbitrators from around the world, available to be selected to adjudicate on complex international disputes. His role will be instrumental in upholding the principles of justice and peaceful settlement on the global stage.
