MBALE – The Ugandan entertainment fraternity and the community of Busulani, Upper-Budadiri, are in mourning following the tragic death and subsequent burial of popular Mbale-based DJ and singer, Jonathan Wanambwa, popularly known as MC Gavin. Wanambwa was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old artist, who was a resident DJ at Oak Bar in Mbale, met his untimely death in a violent incident stemming from a domestic dispute involving two women.

According to accounts from neighbors, the tragedy unfolded on Tuesday night at Wanambwa’s rented single-room residence. He had invited his girlfriend, identified as Namono Gladys, to his home. Hours later, a second woman, Sonis Heylla, also arrived at the door.
Neighbors reported that Wanambwa initially refused to open the door, but after Sonis began shouting loudly, he relented to calm the situation. Upon entering, Sonis discovered Namono present, which immediately ignited a heated verbal altercation between the two women.
The situation escalated rapidly when Namono Gladys, allegedly enraged upon realizing she was not the only woman in the DJ’s life, lost her temper. In a fit of passion, she is accused of picking up a sharp knife and stabbing Wanambwa.
Neighbors reported that during the confrontation, she accused him of infidelity and being unfaithful, lamenting that she had performed domestic duties for him, including washing his clothes, cooking, and being intimate with him whenever he wanted.
The scene descended into chaos following the attack. Namono Gladys was apprehended by locals as she attempted to flee the scene and was later handed over to the police. Sonis Heylla also fled the area, reportedly due to trauma.
MC Gavin was pronounced dead at the scene. He leaves behind two young children, one of whom is just eight months old.
The Mbale Central Police Station confirmed the incident and the arrest of a suspect. Investigations into the tragic event are ongoing. The death of MC Gavin has sent shockwaves through the local community, where he was a well-known and celebrated musical figure.
