Muhoozi-Led Patriotic League Resumes Mobilisation for 2026, Aims for 80% Museveni Vote
KAMPALA – The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a civic organisation chaired by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is set to relaunch its nationwide mobilisation campaign in preparation for the 2026 general elections.
According to officials within the organisation, the primary objective of the renewed push is to secure a commanding victory for President Yoweri Museveni, targeting at least 80% of the national vote.
PLU insiders have framed this ambitious goal as achievable, citing General Kainerugaba’s growing influence within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. They claim the General has successfully positioned his key allies in critical positions of power within the party’s top echelons, giving him “full control” over the party’s machinery.
“The aim is to secure at least 80% of the national vote for President Yoweri Museveni because Gen Muhoozi has full control of power having managed to have his loyal government officials on the high table of the NRM party,” a PLU official stated.
The resurgence of the PLU’s activities, under the leadership of the serving army chief, is likely to intensify debate about the intersection of military command, political campaigning, and the future succession plans within Uganda’s political landscape. The move signals a highly organised and well-backed effort to ensure an overwhelming victory for the long-serving president in the upcoming polls.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is also the son of President Museveni, has increasingly been at the forefront of political activities, causing widespread discussion about his political ambitions. The PLU’s mobilisation efforts are widely seen as a significant vehicle for consolidating support both for his father’s re-election and for his own political capital.
As the 2026 elections draw closer, the activities of the PLU will be closely watched by both supporters and opponents, marking a new chapter in the nation’s political mobilisation.
