Nalwoga Suspended as Division B NRM Chairperson Over Misconduct
ENTEBBE, UGANDA – The Division B Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in Entebbe Municipality, Nalwoga, has been suspended from her leadership position effective immediately. The suspension was announced by the Entebbe Municipality NRM Chairman, Stephen Kabuye, following allegations of gross misconduct and anti-party activities.
According to party sources, Nalwoga’s suspension stems from her active support and fundraising for opposition candidates, specifically those from the National Unity Platform (NUP) and the Democratic Party (DP). It is alleged that Nalwoga has been actively de-campaigning NRM candidates at large, a serious breach of conduct deemed unacceptable for a party leader at her level.
A confirmed source within the party indicated that prior to the suspension, party stakeholders had engaged Nalwoga in an effort to counsel her and encourage a change in behavior. However, those engagements reportedly fell on deaf ears, as she failed to heed the warnings.
Observers suggest that Nalwoga lost sight of the weight and responsibility of her role as Division B NRM Chairperson and chose to act against the party’s interests.
In a separate but related allegation, it is claimed that Nalwoga does not actually own the tender for the Leisure Park. Sources allege the tender was granted to her by the current and former mayoral leadership as a token of appreciation for her long-time support, despite claims that she did not actively support that leadership in their rise to power.
Further compounding the situation, it is alleged that Nalwoga’s daughter has been abusive toward members of the public, behavior deemed unbecoming, especially given her mother’s high-ranking position within the party.
Nalwoga’s leadership team included Vice Chairperson Kasozi and Committee Member Twaha. The source described the committee as strong, but noted that all efforts by her colleagues to persuade her to change course proved futile.
With Nalwoga’s suspension, Vice Chairperson Kasozi is set to automatically assume the role of Chairperson for Division B.
As a result of the suspension, Nalwoga’s involvement in the Leisure Park business and tender is now reportedly at risk. Sources indicate she is likely to lose the tender due to her disobedience against the very party that protected her ownership of the park amidst numerous controversies regarding how the tender was originally acquired.
