ENTEBBE – The political landscape in Entebbe Municipality has solidified with the official nomination of Shyaka Stephen Gashaija as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Shyaka will be contesting for the seat currently held by Michael Kakembo, whose own political allegiance has recently shifted. Kakembo, the incumbent, made headlines after defecting from the National Unity Platform (NUP) to the Democratic Front (DF) party, setting the stage for a highly competitive race.
Following his successful nomination, Shyaka Stephen Gashaija outlined his key campaign priorities, focusing squarely on local economic empowerment. He has pledged robust support for the vibrant boda boda community, a critical economic bloc within the municipality, and has vowed to champion the growth of small-scale businesses.
“The people of Entebbe are seeking dedicated representation that understands their daily struggles and economic aspirations,” Shyaka stated. “My commitment is to be a voice for the hustlers, to ensure our boda boda riders operate in a supportive environment, and to create opportunities for our local entrepreneurs to thrive.”
The entry of a duly nominated NRM candidate significantly intensifies the race for the Entebme Municipality seat. The contest is now poised to be a multi-faceted battle, pitting the established machinery of the NRM against the incumbent Kakembo under his new DF banner, and other potential challengers from various political parties.
As the campaign season gets underway, all eyes will be on Entebbe to see how the electorate responds to Shyaka’s pro-business platform and the shifting political alliances that are redefining the local political arena.
