

NUP Leaders Attend Burial Ceremony of Prof George Kanyeihamba
Kampala, Uganda – July 29, 2025 — Members of the National Unity Platform (NUP), led by party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, gathered on Monday to pay their last respects to the late Prof George Wilson Kanyeihamba during a somber burial ceremony held at the Kabojja International School playground.
Prof Kanyeihamba, a former Supreme Court judge, constitutional law expert, and respected academic, passed away recently after a life of dedicated service to Uganda’s legal and intellectual communities. His death has been widely mourned across the country, with tributes pouring in from political leaders, legal practitioners, and civil society.
The ceremony was marked by speeches, musical tributes, and moments of reflection on Prof Kanyeihamba’s immense contribution to constitutionalism, human rights, and public discourse in Uganda.
NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi described the late professor as a “courageous voice of reason” and “a man who spoke truth to power, even in the face of great adversity.” He urged Ugandans to emulate Kanyeihamba’s integrity and commitment to justice.
Other prominent members of NUP, including legislators and party officials, were in attendance, alongside members of the academia, judiciary, and public.
Following the ceremony at Kabojja, Prof Kanyeihamba’s body will be taken for final interment at his residence in Buziga, Kampala.
The late professor leaves behind a rich legacy as one of Uganda’s foremost legal minds and defenders of democratic values.
