ENTEBBE, UGANDA – October 15, 2025 – Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has expressed profound sadness upon receiving the news of the death of Kenya’s former Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga.

In a official statement released today, President Museveni eulogized Odinga as more than a career politician, but as a “freedom fighter” who followed in the footsteps of his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice-President.
“Ideologically speaking, they have been with the patriotic and Pan-Africanist orientation,” Museveni stated, reflecting on his long-standing relationship with both father and son. “I have shared ideas with both of them. Their sentiments have been for the unity of Kenya, East Africa and Africa, including always supporting the struggles for the realization of our dream for the East African Federation.”
The President’s statement, which included a handwritten note of condolence, emphasized the untimeliness of Odinga’s passing. “It is, therefore, unfortunate that he has left at this moment,” the statement read. President Museveni called on the younger generation to step up, noting, “It is important for the young people to fill the void left by such historical fighters for Africa’s future.”
The Ugandan leader extended his condolences to Kenyan President William Ruto, the people of Kenya, and the Odinga family, ending with the solemn tribute: “May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
The message was signed by Yoweri K. Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda and Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
