President Museveni to Host Live TikTok Session Ahead of Central Uganda Campaigns
KAMPALA — President Yoweri Museveni is set to connect with supporters through a live TikTok session, marking a modern shift in his campaign outreach as he prepares to rally voters in Central Uganda. The interactive event is being organized by his daughter, Natasha Karugire, who recently accompanied the president on the campaign trail in the Rwenzori region.
Natasha, 49, revealed that the idea came from her followers on TikTok, where she has been actively sharing content. Over the past week, she has posted clips on Instagram featuring casual interviews with the president, offering a behind-the-scenes look at his activities.
“Some followers have now suggested that we do a TikTok Live session,” Natasha said. “Being new on the app, I have asked about it and I am being advised on how to go about it; if it is a possibility. I will consult with Mzee and see if it is possible to go live so he can interface with people.”
This is not the first time Natasha has helped digitize her father’s public engagement. During the 2020/21 presidential election campaigns, she played a key role in enhancing President Museveni’s online presence, helping to reach younger and tech-savvy Ugandans.
The planned TikTok Live signals a continued effort by the president’s campaign to embrace social media platforms popular among youth, as he seeks to engage a broader demographic ahead of his rallies in Central Uganda. No official date for the session has yet been announced, but preparations are underway under Natasha’s coordination.
Political analysts note that this move reflects a growing trend among long-standing leaders to adapt to new forms of communication in order to maintain relevance and direct connection with citizens.
