President Ruto Heads to Angola for Key AU-EU and Reform Summits

NAIROBI, Kenya – November 24, 2025 – President William Ruto departed for Luanda, Angola, this afternoon to attend two major international summits, underscoring Kenya’s active role in continental and global affairs.
The President’s itinerary includes the 7th African Union-European Union (AU-EU) Summit and the Second Session of the Ad Hoc Oversight Committee on African Union Institutional Reform. In his capacity as the AU Champion for Institutional Reform, President Ruto will chair the latter meeting.
At the high-level AU-EU Summit, leaders from both continents are set to review two decades of partnership. The agenda focuses on navigating emerging challenges, including shifting global politics, funding shortfalls, and increasing security threats. Kenya is poised to advocate for several key priorities, such as securing predictable financing for African-led peacekeeping missions, enhancing collaboration on counter-terrorism and border security, and promoting joint climate action.
On the sidelines, President Ruto is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with European leaders. These discussions aim to expand trade, deepen investment ties, and accelerate the implementation of the Kenya-EU Economic Partnership Agreement. The Kenyan delegation plans to spotlight opportunities arising from the country’s ambitious economic transformation roadmap. This includes showcasing public-private partnership projects in large-scale irrigation supported by mega-dams, the expansion of clean and industrial energy, and significant upgrades to national infrastructure encompassing roads, airports, ports, and railways.
Following the AU-EU Summit, President Ruto will co-chair the AU Institutional Reform Ad Hoc Committee of Heads of States. In this role, he will brief fellow leaders on the progress made in implementing reforms designed to strengthen the Union’s governance, refine its peace and security architecture, and boost its financial autonomy.
According to a press release from the State House, the overarching goal of these reforms is to “reinforce African unity and enhance the continent’s ability to act decisively in a rapidly shifting global environment.”
The trip highlights Kenya’s continued diplomatic push to shape continental policy and strengthen strategic international partnerships.
