
President Ruto, Prime Minister Abiy Hold Bilateral Talks Ahead of UN Food Systems Summit

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — Kenya and Ethiopia have reaffirmed their longstanding and strategic partnership during high-level bilateral talks held ahead of the United Nations Food Systems Summit.
Kenyan President William Ruto met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed at the National Palace in Addis Ababa, where the two leaders discussed ways to further deepen cooperation between their nations. The meeting underscored the historic and robust relationship between Kenya and Ethiopia, which has been characterised by mutual respect, good neighbourliness, and strong diplomatic ties.
“Our relations are anchored in the Special Status Agreement signed in 2012,” President Ruto noted, highlighting the agreement’s role in fostering collaboration in key sectors including infrastructure development, energy, trade and investment, and regional integration.
Both leaders expressed their shared commitment to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Horn of Africa, a region that continues to face complex security and developmental challenges.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations Food Systems Summit, where leaders from around the world are gathered to discuss transformative actions for sustainable and resilient food systems.
The talks between President Ruto and Prime Minister Abiy are expected to further enhance bilateral ties and pave the way for new initiatives aimed at economic growth and regional cooperation.
