Seven Injured as YY Coaches Bus Overturns on Kampala-Gulu Highway
LUWERO DISTRICT — Seven people were injured on Wednesday night when a YY Coaches bus overturned after swerving to avoid a stationary trailer along the Kampala-Gulu Highway.
The accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in Kakinzi Village, Luwero District. According to preliminary reports, the bus, registration UBF 807D, was traveling from Kampala toward Gulu and Arua when its driver encountered an unlit, parked trailer. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver swerved, causing the bus to lose control, overturn, and subsequently collide with the trailer.
All seven injured passengers were promptly transported to Kasana Luwero Main Hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that there were no fatalities.
The incident has reignited public concern over road safety in Uganda. Many citizens took to social media to highlight recurring hazards such as unmarked roadblocks and poorly lit stationary vehicles on major highways.
The bus company involved, YY Coaches, faces renewed scrutiny. The carrier has been involved in several fatal crashes in recent years, which led to a temporary suspension of its operations by government authorities in 2025.
Police have opened an investigation into the single-vehicle accident as families of those involved await further details.
