ENTEBBE, Uganda – September 12, 2025 – Entebbe International Airport experienced its busiest month on record in August 2025, shattering previous passenger traffic records thanks to a surge in travel for international conferences and major sporting events.
According to data released by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), the airport handled a total of 243,089 international passengers throughout the month. This figure significantly surpasses the previous record set in July, underscoring a period of remarkable growth for Uganda’s primary aviation gateway.
The monthly breakdown shows 116,507 arrivals and 126,582 departures, averaging an impressive 7,841 passengers moving through the airport each day.
Industry analysts and the UCAA cite an influx of visitors traveling to Uganda for several high-profile events as the primary catalyst for the record numbers. The airport’s performance highlights its growing role as a key hub for tourism and business in the East African region.
Beyond passenger traffic, the airport’s cargo sector also demonstrated robust health. In August, it managed 5,257 metric tonnes of goods. A detailed look shows a strong export market, with 3,247 metric tonnes of goods, predominantly fresh produce, shipped out. This was complemented by 2,010 metric tonnes of imports.
The record-breaking numbers position Entebbe International Airport for a strong finish to the year and signal a positive trend in Uganda’s aviation and export industries.
