Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo was on Tuesday involved in a heated standoff with security personnel after attempting to disrupt the reading of the voter register at Sembabule playground.
Ssekikubo accused election organisers of breaching electoral guidelines by including delegates from Meeru Parish, which he claimed is a non-electoral area for the current exercise. He alleged that the inclusion was a deliberate move to manipulate the delegate list in favour of certain candidates.
“This undermines transparency and the democratic process,” Ssekikubo warned, urging the party to uphold fairness in the polls.
The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) is currently conducting elections to choose its new Sembabule District chairperson. The hotly contested race pits Health State Minister Anifa Kawooya against retired army officer Phenihas Katirima.
Security maintained tight control at the venue as voting preparations continued despite the incident.
