ENTEBBE – In a significant move to bolster national security, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has held high-level talks with the country’s military leadership to enhance the protection of critical communications infrastructure.
The meeting, which took place at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe, featured a delegation from the UCC led by its Executive Director, Mr. Nyombi Thembo, in discussion with the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Mr. Thembo was accompanied by a team of technical experts from the Commission, highlighting the detailed and operational nature of the engagement. The central agenda was a collaborative review of advanced security measures designed to safeguard Uganda’s digital networks and telecommunications systems from evolving threats.
A primary focus was on the UCC’s operational strategies and how they can be synergized with the nation’s security apparatus to ensure a secure, resilient, and reliable communications environment for all Ugandans.
This collaboration marks a critical step in proactively addressing potential risks, including cyber-attacks, physical vandalism of infrastructure, and other disruptions that could impact economic activity and national security. The involvement of the highest levels of military command underscores the strategic importance the government places on securing its digital frontiers.
While specific details of the strategies remain confidential, the meeting is seen as a foundational step towards a more integrated and robust approach to protecting assets vital to the nation’s social and economic well-being.
