KAMPALA – The Ugandan music industry is in mourning following the tragic death of popular Afrobeat artist Olisha M. The singer, whose real name was Olivia Mildred Namubiru, passed away on Friday evening at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala during childbirth.
She was in her 30s.
Olisha M rose to prominence with her unique sound that blended traditional Ugandan rhythms with modern Afrobeat. She was best known for her hit songs ‘Katambala’ and ‘Gwenjagala’. Beyond music, she was also active in fashion and acting.
The singer is survived by her husband, Mutassim Nziorera, and their two young children.
Her death has cast a spotlight on the persistent issue of maternal mortality in Uganda, where limited access to quality healthcare remains a significant challenge for many.
News of her passing was first shared on social media, leading to an outpouring of grief from fans and fellow artists across the music community.
