Ugandan General Muhoozi Kainerugaba Hails ‘Rock Solid’ Ties with New Israeli Envoy

ENTEBBE, Uganda – General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, has described the relationship between Uganda and Israel as “rock solid” following talks with the newly appointed Israeli Ambassador.

The newly accredited Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Gideon Behar, met with General Kainerugaba on Saturday at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe. The meeting served as an early diplomatic engagement for the envoy following the presentation of his credentials to President Yoweri Museveni the previous day.
During the discussions, General Kainerugaba emphasized the long-standing nature of the bilateral relationship. “We have been cooperating as friends and allies for many decades and we shall continue to do so in the years to come,” the General noted.
According to reports from the meeting, the discussions extended beyond security cooperation to encompass collaboration in agriculture and technology, highlighting the multi-faceted nature of the partnership.
The meeting marks a continuation of diplomatic ties that were restored in the 1990s following a rupture during the regime of Idi Amin. The relationship between the two nations carries significant historical weight, perhaps most notably symbolized by the 1976 Entebbe raid, though contemporary relations are focused on forward-looking cooperation in various sectors.
Ambassador Behar’s engagement with Uganda’s top military leadership signals the importance Israel places on its relationship with Kampala as part of its broader regional engagement strategy.
