Ugandan Rugby in Mourning Following the Passing of Legendary Prop Ronald Adigasi

The Ugandan rugby community is united in grief following the untimely passing of Ronald Adigasi, a former Rugby Cranes and Entebbe Mongers prop celebrated as one of the nation’s finest front-row players.

Adigasi, a foundational figure in Ugandan rugby, was confirmed to have passed away in an official statement released by the Uganda Rugby Union. The Union expressed its “profound sadness” and extended condolences to his family, friends, and the Entebbe Mongers family.

Details regarding a commemorative service will be communicated after consultations with his family, the Union added.

Affectionately known as “Adigas,” he was remembered by his club, the Entebbe Mongers, as “one of our longest serving members, a beast on pitch and a gentleman off it.” His commitment to the Mongers was unparalleled, having started with the club at its inception in 1998.

His prowess on the field translated to significant success at the international level. Adigasi was a key member of the Uganda Rugby Cranes, representing the nation in both the 7s and 15s formats. His career highlights include winning the Elgon Cup in 2006 and, most notably, being part of the historic 2007 African Championship-winning team.

Tributes have highlighted his impact beyond his playing career. Described as “arguably among the best props on the land,” Adigasi was also a pioneer for the sport. He was instrumental in starting rugby at his former school, Entebbe SS, and was a driving force in nurturing the sport within the wider Entebbe community.

As the community comes to terms with the loss, the rallying cry from his club resonates: “Rest In Peace, Ronald Adigasi.” His legacy as a fierce competitor, a gentleman, and a builder of Ugandan rugby will endure.
