
UPDF Chief, German Ambassador Hold Talks to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

ENTEBBE, Uganda – The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, met with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Uganda, His Excellency Matthias Schauer, in a high-level engagement aimed at reaffirming and deepening the longstanding partnership between the two nations.
The meeting, held at the Special Forces Command (SFC) Headquarters in Entebbe, provided a platform for substantive discussions on a wide range of issues of mutual interest. Both leaders emphasized the continued growth and positive trajectory of Uganda-Germany relations.
According to officials familiar with the discussions, the dialogue centred on enhancing bilateral cooperation across several key sectors. The talks were described as forward-looking, reflecting a shared commitment to a more collaborative and robust partnership.
“The meeting serves as a reaffirmation of the longstanding bilateral relations between the Republic of Uganda and the Federal Republic of Germany,” a statement from the UPDF noted. The discussions underscored a mutual vision for expanding engagement in areas beneficial to both countries.
While specific details of the agenda were not fully disclosed, such high-level meetings typically encompass dialogue on regional security, defence cooperation, and shared development goals. Germany has been a significant development partner for Uganda in various sectors, including governance, renewable energy, and refugee support.
The German Embassy in Kampala confirmed the engagement on its official social media channels, stating the talks covered “issues related to the continued growth of the Uganda-Germany partnership.”
This meeting between General Kainerugaba and Ambassador Schauer marks a continued effort to foster diplomatic and strategic dialogue, reinforcing the framework for future collaboration between Uganda and Germany.
