UPDF Confirms Coordinated Armed Attacks in Western Uganda

KAMPALA – The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has confirmed a series of coordinated armed attacks on security installations in the western districts of Bundibugyo, Kasese, and Fort Portal on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
In a press statement released by the Director of Defence Public Information, Major General Felix Kulayigye, the military said hostile elements armed with submachine guns and machetes targeted multiple police and military positions in an attempt to destabilize the region.
The attacked locations include the Kasese and Lugendabara Police posts in Kasese district, as well as UPDF positions at Malindi and Kakuka in Bundibugyo, and the Canon Apollo School in Fort Portal.
According to the UPDF, security forces “responded swiftly and decisively to neutralize the threat.” The confrontation resulted in several attackers being subdued, while operations are ongoing to apprehend those who fled the scene.
Tragically, the attacks claimed two lives. A civilian woman was killed in Malindi, Bundibugyo, and one soldier was killed in action during the engagements.
“We commend the bravery and professionalism of our personnel who acted with restraint and precision to protect lives and property,” the statement read, adding that investigations are underway to determine the origin, motive, and affiliations of the assailants.
The UPDF strongly condemned the attacks and moved to reassure the public, particularly residents of the affected districts, that the situation is under control. Additional security measures have been deployed to reinforce stability and prevent further incidents.
Authorities are urging the public to remain calm and vigilant and to cooperate with security agencies by immediately reporting any suspicious activity to the nearest police or military post.
“The UPDF remains committed to safeguarding the sovereignty of Uganda and ensuring peace and security for all,” the statement concluded.
