US Vice President JD Vance to Make First Official Africa Visit to Kenya in November 2025
NAIROBI – US Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to embark on a four-day official visit to Kenya starting around November 24, 2025, according to reports. This trip will mark his first journey to Africa since the return of former President Donald Trump to the White House.
The visit is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations, with key discussions centered on trade and security cooperation.
A major item on the trade agenda is the future of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), a US trade preference program that has recently expired. Kenyan exports worth approximately $700 million that were previously covered under AGOA are now in focus as both nations navigate the post-act trade landscape.
On security matters, talks are anticipated to cover Kenya’s leading role in a US-backed multinational mission to Haiti, as well as its ongoing efforts in countering the al-Shabaab militant group in East Africa. The United States has provided substantial support for these initiatives, including $300 million in aid for regional security.
In a related development highlighting the strategic importance of the relationship, Kenya has recently hired a lobbying firm led by Carlos Trujillo, a former US ambassador during the Trump administration. This move is seen as an effort by Nairobi to effectively engage with the priorities of the new US administration, which is currently conducting a review of its ongoing international partnerships.
