Archbishop Kaziimba Unveils Pension Scheme for Retired Clergy and Church Workers
Namirembe, Kampala – The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has announced the introduction of a new pension scheme aimed at supporting retired bishops, clergy, and women serving in the Church.
The announcement was made on Wednesday during a key meeting at the Provincial Secretariat in Namirembe. The Archbishop emphasized that the scheme is part of the Church’s commitment to ensuring its servants retire with dignity and financial security after years of dedicated service.
“We are introducing this pension plan to honor the sacrifices and commitment of our bishops, clergy, and women leaders who have given their lives to the ministry. It is our responsibility to make sure they are not forgotten in retirement,” Archbishop Kaziimba stated.
The initiative has been welcomed as a timely and compassionate move to address the welfare of retired Church workers, many of whom face financial hardships in their later years. Details of the scheme, including implementation timelines and contributions, are expected to be released in the coming months.
This development marks a significant step towards institutionalizing clergy welfare within the Church of Uganda and reflects a growing recognition of the need for sustainable support systems for religious leaders beyond active service.
