Betrayal and Hypocrisy Force NRM’s Hon. Scholastica Najjemba to Run as Independent in Entebbe
ENTEBBE – In a significant political rebellion, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson for Division A in Entebbe Municipality, Hon. Scholastica Najjemba Jane, has officially broken ranks with the party to contest the Parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.
This bold decision, announced through her new campaign materials, stems from what she describes as “a series of betrayal, hypocrisy and unfairness” within the NRM’s Entebbe Municipality chapter. The final catalyst for her move was her profound dissatisfaction with the party’s recently concluded parliamentary primaries, in which she was a participant.
Having contested and lost in what she implies was a flawed process, Hon. Najjemba stated she was “not convinced” by the primary election’s outcome. This disillusionment has propelled her to take her ambitions directly to the electorate, free from the party apparatus she now criticizes.
Her campaign is now in full swing under the distinctive banner of “Omuzabiibu” (The Lady)—a title paired with the defiant and aspirational slogan, “Why not?” Her posters position her for the 2026-2031 parliamentary term, independent of the NRM.
Central to her platform is a three-pronged promise to the people of Entebbe: the “Promotion of wealth, Health & Acceptable Living standards.” This focus on core social and economic issues is likely to resonate with voters seeking tangible improvements in their daily lives.
Hon. Najjemba’s defection signals deep-seated discontent within the NRM’s local structures and sets the stage for a fiercely competitive three-way race. As a sitting divisional chairperson, she carries significant local influence and can leverage her narrative of fighting an unjust system to galvanize support.
The electorate in Entebbe Municipality now faces a clear choice, and Hon. Scholastica Najjemba’s campaign is betting that her message of change, encapsulated in the simple challenge of “Why not?”, will be enough to secure her the seat.
