KAMULI, Uganda – Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the opposition leader popularly known as Bobi Wine, brought his “revolutionary train” to the eastern Ugandan districts of Buyende and Kamuli on Tuesday, drawing massive crowds as he campaigns to challenge President Yoweri Museveni in the 2026 elections.
The rallies are a key part of his National Unity Platform’s (NUP) week-long tour of the Busoga sub-region. The events followed the high-profile launch of his 11-point manifesto in Jinja a day earlier, which outlines his vision for what he calls “A New Uganda Now.”
Enthusiastic supporters, many clad in the NUP’s signature red attire, lined the routes to catch a glimpse of the politician and pop star. They waved Ugandan flags and chanted the movement’s slogan, “People Power Our Power,” signaling strong grassroots support in the region.
Bobi Wine’s newly unveiled manifesto makes several key pledges aimed at addressing the country’s economic challenges and governance structure. The promises include the creation of 10 million jobs, a comprehensive audit of the national debt, ensuring fair pay for farmers, and a significant reduction of the cabinet to just 20 ministers.
The tour and manifesto launch mark a significant escalation in the opposition’s efforts to end President Museveni’s nearly four-decade rule. The NUP is mobilizing supporters around a platform of change and accountability, urging a “protest vote” against the current government.
