Busiro East legislator, Hon. Medard Lubega Ssegona, has turned down an invitation to join the newly-formed People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party, despite being promised the influential position of Secretary General.
According to sources, marathon negotiations were held between PFF officials and Ssegona, during which he was urged to abandon the National Unity Platform (NUP) in exchange for the top post. However, Ssegona reportedly told the officials that he would first consult his political team before making a final decision.
In the meantime, PFF had temporarily appointed Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda as Acting Secretary General while awaiting Ssegona’s response. Their hopes were later dashed when it emerged that Ssegona had instead sought a meeting with NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi to assess his chances of securing the party flag in the upcoming elections.
The development is seen as a major setback for PFF, which had been counting on Ssegona’s defection to strengthen its leadership and bolster its political appeal.
