David Calvin Echodu is set to be officially nominated as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer for the Soroti City West Constituency in the 2026 general elections. The nomination ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, October 23rd.
Echodu’s candidacy follows his unopposed win in the NRM primaries held in June, a result solidified after his rival withdrew from the race to prevent divisions within the party.
This political milestone builds on his recent victory where he was elected as the NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, securing 5,211 votes. This role has significantly bolstered his influence within the Teso sub-region.
The nomination of Echodu is seen as a strategic move by the NRM to consolidate and maintain its urban strongholds ahead of the 2026 polls.
In a post on his official X account (formerly Twitter), Echodu expressed his commitment, stating: “I am deeply honored to take this next step in serving our people, and I remain committed to representing the voices, needs, and aspirations of our community.” He concluded his message by asking for divine guidance and thanking his supporters for their continued backing.
