KAMPALA – In a raw and emotional moment at a recent Uganda National Musicians Federation’s ‘Ekyoto’ event, celebrated singer Fille Mutoni broke her silence, revealing a painful, years-long battle with drug addiction that she says shattered her most important relationship: the one with her young daughter.
Addressing a room filled with peers and industry stakeholders, Fille offered a candid account of how substance abuse consumed her life, bringing her to a point where she was unable to fulfill her most basic duties as a mother.
“Drugs destroyed my relationship with my daughter,” the singer confessed, detailing the devastating low point where her addiction prevented her from even visiting her child at school.
Her story, which aligns with previous accounts from her ex-manager and the father of her child, MC Kats, traces the origins of her struggle back to 2015. She revealed that she was first introduced to hard drugs, including crystal meth and crack cocaine, by a friend.
What followed was a harrowing cycle of addiction, characterized by attempts at rehabilitation, painful relapses, and the severe physical and mental toll that accompanies substance abuse. Her testimony painted a stark picture of a talented artist grappling with a private demon that threatened to eclipse her public success.
The ‘Ekyoto’ event, designed for open dialogue within the creative community, provided a platform for Fille’s powerful story of struggle. Her confession serves as a stark warning about the perils of drug abuse and its capacity to damage careers, health, and, most profoundly, family bonds.
By sharing her experience, Fille joins a growing number of public figures using their platforms to demystify addiction and encourage others facing similar battles to seek help. Her story has since sparked conversations online about the pressures within the entertainment industry and the importance of mental health and support systems.
