Gen. Katumba Wamala Joins Minister Aber in Delivering President’s Relief Aid to Kalangala Cyclone victims

Kalangala, Uganda – General Edward Katumba Wamala, alongside the Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness, Relief, and Refugees, Hon. Lilian Aber, presided over the distribution of the President’s relief package to families affected by the March cyclone in Kalangala District.

The event, held at the Kalangala District Headquarters, saw the government extend financial and material support to victims of the devastating storm. Bereaved families each received UGX 5 million, while other affected households were given UGX 1 million, along with iron sheets to assist in rebuilding their homes.

Hon. Aber emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting disaster-stricken communities, stating, “The President is deeply concerned about the welfare of those affected by the cyclone. This assistance is meant to help families recover and rebuild their lives.”

Gen. Katumba Wamala expressed solidarity with the victims, urging resilience and proper utilization of the aid. “We stand with you in this difficult time, and we encourage you to use these resources wisely to restore your livelihoods,” he said.
Local leaders and residents welcomed the intervention, though some called for long-term solutions to mitigate the impact of future disasters. The March cyclone caused significant destruction in the island district, displacing families and damaging infrastructure.
The government has pledged continued support for disaster-prone regions, with plans to enhance early warning systems and community preparedness programs.
