Founder of the Independent Magazine, Andrew Mwenda, has announced that Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), has officially endorsed Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi for the position of National Chairman of the Veterans League under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Mwenda, acting on the directive of Gen. Muhoozi, relayed the endorsement to the public, emphasizing the confidence the CDF has in Maj Gen Muhwezi’s leadership, experience, and long-standing contribution to the liberation struggle and national development.
“Gen. Muhoozi has asked me to inform the public that he is backing Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi for the role of National Chairman of the Veterans League of the NRM,” Mwenda stated.
Maj Gen Muhwezi, a historical member of the NRM and veteran of the 1981–86 liberation war, is a seasoned political and military figure who has served in various high-profile government positions, including Minister for Security and Minister of Information and National Guidance. His bid for the Veterans League chairmanship is expected to galvanize support among the party’s historicals and retired military personnel.
The NRM Veterans League plays a pivotal role in preserving the legacy of the revolution, mobilizing retired officers, and contributing to national policy discourse.
Gen. Muhoozi’s endorsement is seen as a significant political boost for Maj Gen Muhwezi’s candidacy ahead of internal elections within the League.
