Kampala, Uganda – Uganda will not hesitate to intervene in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) if conflict erupts again, Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba declared today. He criticized the exclusion of regional players, particularly the East African Community (EAC), from the recent Doha peace process, calling it a “significant mistake.”
“The only person capable of restoring lasting peace in eastern DRC is President Museveni,” Gen. Muhoozi asserted. “Uganda must pursue its interests decisively. If war breaks out again, we will act immediately to secure our nation’s stability and security.”
The statement comes amid rising tensions in eastern DRC, where armed groups, including M23 rebels, continue to destabilize the region. Uganda has previously deployed troops under bilateral agreements and EAC mandates but has faced criticism from Kinshasa over its military presence.
Analysts suggest Gen. Muhoozi’s remarks signal a more assertive Ugandan stance, potentially foreshadowing unilateral action if regional diplomacy fails. The Doha peace talks, brokered by Angola and Qatar, have largely sidelined the EAC, a move Kampala now openly condemns.
As security concerns grow, Uganda appears ready to take a firmer role—with or without regional consensus.
