Kampala, Uganda – August 14, 2025 – Following a recent incident in which several Ugandans were intercepted at Entebbe International Airport while allegedly attempting to travel to Ukraine to join the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has issued a stern warning against any such activities.
In a strong statement, Gen. Muhoozi emphasized that Ugandans are “absolutely forbidden” from being recruited to participate in the war. He cautioned that anyone found attempting to enlist or travel for combat purposes will face severe punishment under Ugandan law.
“This is not Uganda’s war, and no citizen should involve themselves in foreign conflicts without government authorization,” Gen. Muhoozi warned.
The incident at Entebbe International Airport has sparked renewed concerns over the recruitment of Ugandans into international armed conflicts, with security agencies vowing to intensify monitoring of suspicious travel patterns.
Uganda’s government maintains a strict policy against its citizens participating in foreign wars without express approval, citing both national security and diplomatic neutrality.
