Hadijah Namyalo Met with Hostility During Empowerment Tour in South Africa
Johannesburg, South Africa – August 4, 2025
Hadijah Namyalo, the National Coordinator of the Office of the NRM National Chairperson (ONC), faced a hostile reception from sections of the Ugandan community during her empowerment tour in Mayfair, a suburb of Johannesburg, over the weekend.
Namyalo, who was on an official engagement aimed at mobilizing and empowering Ugandans in the diaspora, encountered open resistance and sharp criticism from some members of the Ugandan community living in South Africa. The discontented crowd reportedly expressed frustration over a range of issues affecting Ugandans abroad, including consular services, economic challenges, and political concerns back home.
Despite the hostile environment, Namyalo remained composed and assured the community that their grievances would not go unheard. She pledged to relay their concerns directly to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, promising that the leadership would take their issues seriously.
“I am here to listen, and I will take your concerns to the President. Every Ugandan matters, whether at home or abroad,” Namyalo reportedly stated during the tense engagement.
The visit is part of Namyalo’s broader mandate to promote government programs and strengthen ties with Ugandans living outside the country. While the reaction in Mayfair was confrontational, the encounter highlighted the urgency with which diaspora Ugandans wish to see their voices heard and their challenges addressed by the Ugandan government.
