Harambee Stars Appeal to President Ruto for Inclusion in Affordable Housing Programme Following DRC Victory
NAIROBI, Kenya — August 4, 2025
Fresh from their 1–0 triumph over the Democratic Republic of Congo, Harambee Stars players are now making headlines off the pitch — this time, by appealing to President William Ruto for inclusion in the government’s Affordable Housing Programme (AHP).
The request, made publicly, underscores the growing confidence Kenyans are placing in the ambitious housing initiative, which has seen unprecedented milestones achieved in a span of just two and a half years.
In May 2025, 1,000 Kenyans officially moved into the newly completed Mukuru Affordable Housing Estate, a historic step in a journey many once dismissed as a pipe dream. Today, the AHP is active in 44 of the 47 counties and is targeting the delivery of 200,000 housing units across the nation.
Initially met with skepticism — with critics calling it another empty promise — the programme has steadily gained momentum and public trust. From project launches once doubted to see completion, to now fully occupied estates and functional communities, the housing revolution is visibly reshaping the urban and rural landscape of Kenya.
Over 900,000 Kenyans have so far registered on the government-backed Boma Yangu platform, hoping to secure a place in the affordable housing rollout. Wherever President Ruto visits, citizens have begun voicing a unified plea: to be considered for the housing opportunity.
The Harambee Stars’ appeal adds to the growing chorus of hopeful voices — and further demonstrates how the AHP is no longer viewed as a political slogan, but as a life-changing possibility for ordinary citizens, including national heroes.
What was once seen as an elusive promise is now a trusted system, quietly driving a social revolution and affirming that transformation is not just possible — it is happening.
