KADAGA NAMES POLITICAL SUCCESSOR, ENDS YEARS OF SPECULATION

KAMULI – In a move that has clarified the political future of Kamuli, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Woman MP for Kamuli District, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, has officially unveiled Mastula Namatovu as her chosen political successor.

The announcement, which ends prolonged speculation about who would carry on Kadaga’s legacy, was made on Wednesday during a celebratory rally at Buwanume Primary School. The event was organized to mark Namatovu’s successful nomination as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the Kamuli Municipality parliamentary seat.
Addressing hundreds of excited NRM supporters, local leaders, and party mobilizers, Kadaga, affectionately known as “Mama Busoga,” threw her full weight behind Namatovu. The declaration was met with enthusiastic pledges of support from the crowd, who vowed to rally behind the anointed candidate.
The unveiling of Namatovu provides a clear answer to a question that has long loomed over the district’s politics. For years, constituents and political observers have speculated about which individual Kadaga had been grooming to take over her mantle.
Kadaga’s enduring influence in the region is built on a legacy of widespread social and economic support. According to reliable sources, the veteran legislator has profoundly impacted countless lives across Busoga. Her initiatives are reported to include providing seed capital for residents to start businesses, paying school fees for the needy, and creating employment through her local investments.
Notable among these investments is a significant stake in the local transport sector, where she owns a fleet of over 200 taxis. Furthermore, she has been instrumental in assisting many individuals to secure opportunities abroad for kyeyo (foreign employment) as well as placements in government jobs.
This endorsement positions Mastula Namatovu as a formidable contender, carrying the banner of one of Busoga’s most influential political figures into the 2026 elections.
