Kenyan Engineer Killed in South Sudan Ambush, Two Missing
Morobo, South Sudan – July 31, 2025 — Authorities in South Sudan have confirmed the death of a Kenyan engineer following a deadly ambush on Thursday morning along the Morobo-Kaya road in Central Equatoria State.
According to Morobo County Commissioner Charles Data Bullen, the assailants attacked a vehicle transporting the engineer, set it ablaze, and fled the scene. The engineer was killed in the assault, while two others, including the vehicle’s driver, remain missing.

Commissioner Bullen reported that government security forces responded swiftly to the incident and managed to kill one of the attackers, later identified as a known fighter with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLA-IO).

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the remaining assailants and are intensifying search operations for the two missing individuals.
The attack raises fresh concerns over the fragile security situation in parts of South Sudan, particularly in areas along the borders with Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, where various armed groups remain active.
South Sudan’s government has condemned the attack and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. The identity of the deceased Kenyan engineer has not yet been publicly released, pending notification of next of kin.
