Kenya’s Mudavadi Meets Uganda’s Museveni to Strengthen Regional Ties and Discuss Port Access

MAYUGE, Uganda – In a significant diplomatic engagement, Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi met with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on November 19, 2025, at the State Lodge in Mayuge, Uganda.

The high-level talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and promoting stability within the East African Community. A central topic was Uganda’s need for reliable and efficient access to Kenyan seaports, primarily the Port of Mombasa. This access is critically important for Uganda, as it facilitates over $1 billion in annual trade.
The discussions follow recent public comments by President Museveni concerning landlocked nations’ rights to sea access, which had sparked speculation about regional trade dynamics.
Following the meeting, Mudavadi moved to assure the public of the strong and unshaken ties between the two nations, stating there were no threats to the relationship.
The diplomacy was largely praised by Ugandans on social media, with many viewing it as a constructive step towards deeper regional integration.
President Museveni confirmed the meeting on his official X account (formerly Twitter), posting: “Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary, H.E Musalia Mudavadi, and his team visited me at State Lodge Mayuge last night. We discussed issues concerning both our countries and the region. I welcome him.
