Makerere University student Elson Tumwine has been sentenced to two months in Luzira Prison under Uganda’s Computer Misuse Act over a TikTok video in which he criticized President Yoweri Museveni and Speaker of Parliament Anita Among.
According to Police Form 53, filed under Entebbe CBR 817/2025 and seen by Ritah Kaggwa Blog, the charges relate to a video Tumwine shared in May 2025 through his account @elsontumwine.
In the clip, Tumwine accused President Museveni of orchestrating the 1989 Mukura massacre in the Teso region and alleged that Speaker Among engages in selective reconciliation.
The case has sparked renewed debate over freedom of expression in Uganda, especially in relation to political commentary on social media platforms.
