Mbale, Uganda – A Senior Three student of Mbale High School, identified as Akram Kairoki, is in police custody after allegedly stabbing his schoolmate to death in Mbale City.
The tragic incident occurred recently at Amber Stores in the Indian Quarters, shortly after the students had been released from school. Reports indicate that Kairoki and Shafik Wasike, a 19-year-old Senior Four candidate, got into a fight during which Kairoki allegedly stabbed Wasike with a sharp object, leaving him critically injured.
Three colleagues rushed Wasike to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, but due to excessive bleeding and lack of immediate first aid, medics pronounced him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, Kairoki fled into hiding in a village, but police tracked him down and arrested him earlier this week.
Authorities have condemned the act, describing it as a needless loss of young life, and have urged schools, parents, and communities to intensify guidance and counseling among students to curb rising cases of school-related violence.
Police are expected to charge the suspect as investigations continue.
