Ministry Halts Kalangala Ferry for Emergency Repairs

ENTEBBE, December 3, 2025 – The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced the immediate and temporary suspension of the MV Kalangala ferry services, citing the need for urgent engine repairs.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the Ministry stated that the ferry service connecting Entebbe (Nakiwogo) to Kalangala (Lutoboka) is halted effective today, 3rd December 2025. The closure is to allow technical teams to conduct emergency repair interventions to restore the vessel to normal and safe operating standards.
“The general public and all users of MV Kalangala Ferry are advised to use the MV Ssesse and MV Rafiki,” the notice read, directing passengers to the alternative routes operating between Bukakata-Luuku and Nakiwogo-Lutoboka crossings.
The Permanent Secretary, Mr. Bageya Waiswa, signed the notice, which apologized for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that an update would be provided once services resume. No estimated timeline for the completion of repairs was given.
The MV Kalangala is a critical transport link for the Kalangala district (Sesse Islands), facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services across Lake Victoria. Its temporary unavailability is expected to disrupt travel plans, with authorities urging passengers to adhere to the advised alternative ferries.
