ZURICH — In the freshly released FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings, Morocco continues to stand tall as Africa’s premier football nation, maintaining its prestigious position in the global top 10. The Atlas Lions sit 8th worldwide, cementing their status as the continent’s highest-ranked team following their historic 2022 World Cup semi-final run.
Senegal, crowned champions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, solidifies its place as Africa’s second force. The Lions of Teranga climbed to 12th in the world, reflecting their continental triumph and consistent strength.
The most dramatic rise within Africa belongs to Nigeria. The Super Eagles soared an impressive 12 places to 26th globally, making them the continent’s third-ranked team. This surge is a direct reward for their strong third-place finish at AFCON 2025, showcasing a significant return to form on the international stage.
North African rivals Algeria and Egypt complete Africa’s top five, ranked 4th and 5th on the continent respectively.
Globally, the top ten remains a mix of football’s traditional powerhouses and modern elites. The order is led by Spain, followed by Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, and Morocco. Belgium, Germany, and Croatia round out the world’s top ten, with Belgium and Germany sharing 9th position.
