KAMPALA, UGANDA – NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Region, Capt. Mike Mukula, has strongly condemned acts of voter bribery in the ongoing Central Executive Committee (CEC) campaigns, warning that the practice threatens the integrity of the party’s leadership.
Mukula, who is seeking re-election to the powerful position, revealed that reports have emerged of some delegates receiving cash handouts ranging between Shs200,000 and Shs3 million in exchange for their votes.
He cautioned that such practices not only erode the democratic values within the ruling party but also risk producing leaders who are chosen based on money rather than merit.
“Voter bribery undermines the quality of leadership that the NRM must stand for. If we allow this trend to continue, we are likely to compromise the party’s future and weaken its moral foundation,” Mukula stated.
The veteran politician appealed to delegates to reject financial inducements and instead vote for leaders with vision, integrity, and commitment to the party’s core principles.
The NRM CEC elections have intensified in recent weeks as party leaders across the country lobby for support in various positions, with allegations of money politics surfacing in different regions.
