Munyagwa: PLU Dominates NRM Primaries, Poised to Overtake Parliament
Kampala, Uganda — Former Kawempe South MP, Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa, has claimed that the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), led by First Son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has firmly cemented its grip on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party following the just-concluded primary elections.
In a statement on Thursday, Munyagwa alleged that over 80% of the winning candidates in the NRM primaries are aligned with PLU, suggesting a strategic takeover of the party from within.
“It’s PLU that won. Parliament will be overtaken by PLU. They’re strategic. Even the NRM caucus will be full of PLU members,” Munyagwa stated.
He argued that Gen. Muhoozi’s supporters have systematically positioned themselves to take control of Uganda’s political landscape, especially ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The PLU, a political pressure group associated with Gen. Muhoozi, has been rapidly expanding its influence nationwide, raising speculation about the First Son’s political ambitions and his possible bid for the presidency.
Neither the NRM leadership nor Gen. Muhoozi has officially responded to Munyagwa’s claims.
The development has sparked debate over the future dynamics within the NRM and the direction of Uganda’s political trajectory as the country inches closer to the next electoral cycle.
