Title: Musumba Vows to Reclaim Kamuli for NRM, Blames Kadaga for Past Defeats
KAMULI – In a significant political move, former Housing and Urban Development Minister, Isaac Isanga Musumba, has declared he will lead President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s campaign in Kamuli District for the 2026 general elections. He has pledged to reclaim the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s dominance in the area.
The announcement was made during a meeting with NRM cadres and stakeholders in Kamuli Municipality. Musumba, a seasoned politician and longstanding NRM stalwart, issued a strong critique of the party’s recent performance, directly pointing fingers at former Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga.
Musumba attributed the NRM’s poor showing in the 2021 elections to inadequate mobilization efforts under Kadaga’s leadership in the Busoga region. He stated that this failure created a political vacuum that allowed the National Unity Platform (NUP), led by pop star-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, to make significant inroads.
“The party’s poor performance in 2021 was due to Kadaga who did not mobilise well for the party,” Musumba told the gathering. “This gave Bobi Wine’s NUP a chance to defeat NRM in the whole of the Busoga region.”
His declaration sets the stage for a fierce political battle to consolidate support for the NRM in a region that has recently shown signs of shifting allegiances. Musumba’s vow to lead the campaign signals a potential restructuring of the party’s strategy and leadership hierarchy in Kamuli and the wider Busoga sub-region.
The move is seen as an effort by the NRM to re-energize its base and address internal weaknesses ahead of the crucial 2026 polls. All eyes will now be on Musumba’s mobilization strategy as he begins the task of winning back support for the ruling party.
