BREAKING: MV Kalangala Ferry Services Halted Due to Technical Malfunction
The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced the immediate and temporary suspension of all services for the MV Kalangala Ferry, a critical transport link between Entebbe and Kalangala district.
The suspension, effective today, Tuesday, 16th December 2025, was necessitated by a technical malfunction registered by the vessel. The ferry plies the popular Nakiwogo (Entebbe) to Lutoboka (Kalangala) route.
In a public notice signed by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Bageya Waiswa, the Ministry assured the public that its technical team is “working around the clock” to perform necessary maintenance. The interventions aim to restore and improve the reliability and safety of the ferry, though a specific return-to-service date was not provided.
Alternative Travel Arrangements
To minimize disruption for passengers, the Ministry has directed travelers to use the alternative vessel, MV Rafiki, for the same Nakiwogo-Lutoboka crossing.
However, passengers transporting heavy cargo and vehicles are advised to take a different route altogether. They should use the alternative path to Kalangala through Bukakata in Masaka.
The Ministry has urged all passengers and cargo transporters to take note of the changes and plan their journeys accordingly, apologizing for any inconvenience caused.
The MV Kalangala Ferry is a vital lifeline for the island district, facilitating the movement of people, goods, and vehicles. The temporary closure is expected to significantly impact travel and trade until services resume.
