KAMPALA, Uganda – In a significant move to boost intra-African travel, Uganda and Mauritius have officially embarked on a groundbreaking tourism collaboration. Dubbed “From Paradise to The Pearl,” this bilateral initiative aims to fuse Mauritius’ renowned world-class luxury with Uganda’s raw, unmatched biodiversity and adventure experiences.

The partnership, announced by the tourism boards of both nations, is designed to create a unique, cross-continental travel offering that highlights the best of what each country has to offer. The core of the strategy is to leverage their complementary strengths, positioning them as a combined, must-visit destination for discerning travelers.
“This is more than just a marketing agreement; it’s a shared vision for the future of African tourism,” said a representative from the Uganda Tourism Board. “We are building a bridge from the serene beaches and luxury resorts of Mauritius to the heart-pounding adventures and pristine wilderness of Uganda.”
The multi-pronged initiative outlines several key objectives:
- Attracting Affluent Travelers: A primary focus will be to curate high-end experiences for Mauritian travelers seeking unique adventures. These will include once-in-a-lifetime opportunities like gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, thrilling adventure tourism activities, and deep cultural immersion in Uganda’s diverse communities.
- Establishing Institutional Frameworks: Both countries are committed to moving beyond a simple agreement by establishing a formal institutional partnership. This will be supported by a series of roadshows to be held in Mauritius, aimed at educating travel agents and the public about the new opportunities in Uganda.
- Promoting Leisure and MICE Tourism: The collaboration will aggressively position Uganda not only as a premier leisure destination but also as an emerging hub for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE), capitalizing on its growing infrastructure and unique venues.
For Mauritius, the partnership opens up a new, adventurous dimension for its outbound tourists. For Uganda, it represents a strategic entry into a high-spending market and a powerful endorsement of its tourism products on the international stage.
The “From Paradise to The Pearl” initiative is seen as a model for future Africa-to-Africa tourism partnerships, demonstrating how countries can work together to create synergistic offerings that celebrate the continent’s vast and varied appeal.
