Ngora District Chairperson Defects to Democratic Front After NRM Primary Loss
KAMPALA – In a significant political shift, Mr. Odongo Mike Lo Asio, the current Chairperson of Ngora District, has officially crossed from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to the opposition Democratic Front (DF).
His defection comes shortly after he lost the NRM party primaries for the Ngora District Chairperson seat, a defeat that appears to have prompted his exit from the ruling party.
Mr. Odongo was formally received into the DF at the party’s headquarters in Namirembe on Tuesday. He was accompanied by a delegation that included Mr. Pascal Amuriat, the DF Deputy President for Eastern Uganda, and Mr. Joseph Otala Ebekulasi, the party’s aspiring candidate for Serere County.
The group was warmly welcomed by the Democratic Front president, Mr. Mathias Mpuuga, who presided over the ceremony.
This move is seen as a boost for the DF, which is seeking to strengthen its presence in the Teso sub-region ahead of the general elections. For Mr. Odongo, joining DF potentially offers a new platform to contest for his current seat as an opposition candidate, leveraging his incumbency and local influence.
The defection underscores the ongoing political realignments occurring across the country following the recent conclusion of party primaries, which have left a number of disappointed aspirants seeking alternative paths to remain in the political arena.
