Nakawa, Uganda | August 4, 2025 — Senior Superintendent of Police Nixon Agasirwe and former Flying Squad operative Abdul Noor Ssemujju, alias Minana, have appeared before the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Nakawa for the continued hearing of their high-profile case linked to the 2015 murder of former Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Joan Kagezi.
The duo, alongside other co-accused persons, is facing charges in connection with the assassination of Kagezi, who was gunned down on March 30, 2015, in Kiwatule, a Kampala suburb, while driving home from work.
Agasirwe, a former operative in the police’s elite units, and Ssemujju, who previously served under the Flying Squad Unit, have consistently denied the charges since their arrest. The case has drawn widespread public and media attention, given Kagezi’s prominent role in prosecuting high-risk terrorism and organized crime cases prior to her death.
Today’s proceedings are expected to include the presentation of additional evidence and witness testimonies as prosecutors build their case. The prosecution alleges that the accused individuals were part of a coordinated plot to eliminate Kagezi, in retaliation for her role in prosecuting terror suspects.
The case had stalled for several months due to logistical and investigative delays, but recent developments have seen renewed momentum as authorities pursue justice for the late prosecutor.
Court has been adjourned to a later date for further hearings, as investigations continue under heightened security and legal scrutiny.
Joan Kagezi remains a revered figure in Uganda’s legal fraternity, remembered for her integrity, professionalism, and courage in the face of threats from criminal networks.
